U Bolts Round Overview

U-bolts are a "U" shaped nut and bolt type fastener with two legs and have threaded ends that are designed to be used with nuts and washers. These bolts are typically inserted through pre-drilled or pre-punched holes. Round bend U-bolts are commonly used for attaching pipes or steel round bars to wooden or steel posts. They are also frequently used to secure or hang pipes in mechanical installations. The most common uses are in construction or plumbing trades for attaching and securing pipework, cables and rods. Although they can also be used in automotive or electrical trades for securing leaf springs, conduit or cable trays.

How to size a U Bolt

Generally speaking u bolts are bought and sold based on the nominal bore (NB) size. Nominal bore (NB) refers to the approximate inner diameter (ID) of a pipe, tube or round bar. It is a standard measurement used in the pipe industry to indicate the size of a pipe. Simply match the NB size to the size of your pipe, tube or round bar. For example, a 20mm pipe would require a 20NB u bolt. A 50mm tube would require a 50NB u bolt. All measurements read Diameter of bolt x inside width x leg length.
